Spotlight: Dina Kenkes

Dina Kenkes is the Principal, Gersh Autism Academy.

“I am a multilingual educator and school leader with a deep passion for special education and inclusive practices. With certifications in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, and TESOL, I bring a multifaceted perspective to supporting students with autism and developmental disabilities. I am currently completing my EdD in Transformational Leadership at LIU Post, with research focused on culturally responsive education practices. Prior to joining Gersh, I served as a language access coordinator and assistant principal, where I developed programs at the intersection of literacy, language, and equity.

What I love most about Gersh is the unwavering commitment to seeing every student’s potential. In a setting where individualized support is not just a goal but a practice, I feel the mission come to life every single day. The dedication I see from staff, the trust families place in us, and the progress our students make — even in small but meaningful ways — is truly what makes this work so fulfilling.

I was drawn to Gersh because of its reputation for providing high-quality, compassionate care and education to students who need it most.

As someone who has spent her career advocating for underserved students — whether as an ENL coordinator, a special educator, or a school leader — Gersh felt like a place where my values and my skills could have a real impact. I wanted to be part of a team that leads with heart and purpose.”
