With 27 years of experience in public education, Debra Hay brings a deep background in Special Education and Educational Leadership to her work. A graduate of Pacific Lutheran University, where she earned both her undergraduate and master’s degrees, Debra has dedicated her career to supporting students with complex needs—teaching learners with significant behavioral challenges, as well as math courses through Geometry. Debra is passionate about helping students discover a love of learning, especially those who enter her classroom convinced they can’t succeed. She is known for transforming school avoidant behaviors, building confidence, and guiding students toward both academic and life success.
Her professional journey is deeply personal. As the mother of an adult child with ASD and the proud “memaw” of a 14 year old grandson who is also diagnosed with ASD, Debra credits them with shaping her into a more compassionate educator and human being. Their presence in her life continues to bring joy, perspective, and purpose.
