Pier 16 turned yellow this weekend! The Gersh Autism Academy team showed up in full force at the Autism Speaks Empower Walk 5K, walking together with heart, pride, and purpose to support the autism community.
Decked out in bright yellow shirts that read “We Have Heart,” matching sunglasses, and branded Gersh hats, our team made a big impact and a big statement. Staff, students, families, and leadership from all of our New York campuses joined together to walk side by side.

Our bright yellow booth at the Community Resource Fair was a hit, admissions staff greeted families, shared information about Gersh programs, and handed out fun giveaways. It was a meaningful opportunity to connect with new families, share resources, and celebrate the incredible work happening across our schools.
“Walking together as a community reminds us why we do what we do, every student, every family, every step matters,” said Amy Malmquist, CEO of Gersh Autism Academy.

Kids laughed and played, parents swapped experiences, and our team had the chance to celebrate what truly drives our mission: empowering individuals with autism through education, support, and opportunity.
Every mile was a reminder that progress happens when we come together.

Participating in the Autism Speaks Walk is more than just showing up for a day, it’s about showing up for our community. Gersh is proud to support Autism Speaks and to continue building bridges of awareness, advocacy, and care for individuals on the autism spectrum.
We’re deeply grateful to everyone who joined, volunteered, donated, or simply cheered us on. Your support fuels our mission and helps us keep changing lives, one student, one family, one walk at a time.
💛 Until next year, thank you for walking with us!
